IBM, legally International Business Machines Corporation, is an American technology company that provides software, consulting, computing infrastructure, cloud computing and artificial intelligence products and services for businesses, governments and other organizations. It is headquartered in Armonk, New York, and operates in more than 175 countries.

Its software business develops AI, automation, data management, transaction processing and cybersecurity software, including Red Hat software for cloud computing and watsonx, which helps businesses develop, deploy and manage AI applications and models. IBM Consulting helps organizations adopt cloud computing, AI and other digital technologies, while its infrastructure division provides IBM Z mainframes, Power servers, storage systems and related support services. A financing segment helps customers acquire IBM products and services through financing and leasing programs.

IBM's AI work gained widespread attention when its Watson computer system defeated two champions on the television quiz show Jeopardy!, demonstrating advances in artificial intelligence and natural language processing. The company later expanded its cloud computing and AI investments and acquired Red Hat, making Red Hat central to its cloud computing strategy. It also spun off its managed infrastructure services business as Kyndryl to sharpen its focus on software, cloud computing and AI.

IBM now concentrates resources on hybrid cloud, AI and quantum computing. Its software and consulting businesses focus on middleware and on helping enterprises use AI to make complex systems lower-cost, safer, higher-quality and more efficient. IBM has applied AI extensively in its own operations and offers prebuilt agentic workflows, more than 160 agentic AI solutions, IBM Bob for AI-agent-driven enterprise software development, IBM Enterprise Advantage for scaling agentic AI across an organization, and IBM Sovereign Core for managing digital sovereignty requirements. It also operates IBM AI Lab Japan to accelerate AI product development and improvement for Japanese enterprise needs.
