Anthropic

Anthropic is an artificial intelligence company and research lab that develops frontier AI models, including the Claude family of large language models, for writing, summarising, answering questions, coding and enterprise work. Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, it is led by siblings Dario Amodei, chief executive officer, and Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president. Anthropic is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and describes its mission as the responsible development and maintenance of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity.

Claude is delivered through Anthropic's models, platform and applications. The Claude assistant was released in March 2023 as a tool for writing, summarising, answering questions and coding. Claude 3 arrived in March 2024, Claude Code became generally available in May 2025, and Claude Sonnet 4.5 emphasised longer coding tasks and improved reasoning. In April 2026 Anthropic debuted Mythos, described as its most advanced AI model to date, designed for defensive cybersecurity tasks.

Anthropic makes Claude available to enterprises and developers through cloud partnerships as well as its own products. Claude is the first frontier model available on all three of the world's largest cloud platforms—Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure—with AWS as Anthropic's primary cloud provider and training partner. Early partners included Notion, Quora and DuckDuckGo. Global enterprises deploy Claude in core operations, and Claude Code is among the company's most popular products.

The company runs frontier and safety research, including work on AI safety and interpretability. It operates as a public benefit corporation whose directors must balance shareholders' financial interests with the interests of people affected by the business and its mission. Its Long-Term Benefit Trust generally has authority to select a majority of directors, while a founders' entity is set to retain majority voting power on matters submitted to shareholders generally.
